Iran to improve gasoline quality to comply with Euro-5 standard: official

Managing Director of Tehran Oil Refinery Mohsen Qadiri said the refinery will start producing gasoline compliant with the Euro-5 standard by October, 2011, the English language satellite Press TV reported Monday.

Tehran Oil Refinery will improve the production quality by reducing the amount of sulfur and other pollutants, Qadiri was quoted as saying on Sunday.

Once the content of dissolved minerals or pollutants in the products is reduced, the refinery can reach the Euro-5 standard, he said.

Qadiri said last December that about one billion U.S. dollars had been invested in the project, according to the report.

The Euro-5 standard is one of the European emission standards which define the acceptable limits for exhaust emissions of automobiles.

Tehran Oil Refinery produces an average of 400,000 liters of liquid gas, 6.6 million liters of gasoline, three million liters of kerosene, 13 million liters of gas oil and 10 million liters of fuel oil each day, according to Press TV.
