Yesterday, we saw history being made as U.S. troops killed Osama bin Laden, or the most wanted face of terrorism, in Pakistan. As details start to trickle out on the covert operations surrounding the Al Qaeda leader's death, there will also be countless photos showing us how this development affects everyday people from all over the world.
One of the most iconic and unforgettable images will, no doubt, be this one taken by photojournalist Michael Appleton for The New York Times. It shows New York firefighters gathered Sunday night to watch the news ticker in Times Square.
More than 300 firefighters died on Sept. 11, 2001 from the terrorist attacks.
