Indian firm wins contract to build 300MW thermal plant

State-owned engineering firm Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has received a Rs6.3bn ($124.5m) contract from Abhijeet Projects, an independent power producer (IPP), to set up a 300MW thermal power plant in Visakhapatnam, India.
The scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of boilers, steam turbines and turbo-generators and other associated auxiliaries.
BHEL is currently executing a seperate contract for Abhijeet Projects, for its proposed coal-based Matrishri Usha Jayaswal Mega Power Plant located at Latehar district of Jharkhand.

The company will supply and install the main plant package for Phase-I (2x270 MW) and Phase-II (2x270 MW) of the plant.
BHEL, an integrated power plant equipment manufacturer, has received 71% of its power plant equipment orders from IPPs.
The company received total orders of 31,560MW for power plant equipment during 2009-2011, out of which orders from IPPs stood at 22,369 MW.
